0Four of Cups as a Person
The Four of Cups represents apathy, discontentment, and disengagement. As a person, someone who embodies the energy of the Four of Cups may be someone who feels unfulfilled with their current situation or circumstances. They may appear to be disinterested, unresponsive, or even indifferent to opportunities that are presented to them.
This person may be going through a phase of introspection, trying to figure out what they want in life and what truly matters to them. They may be searching for deeper meaning and purpose, but struggling to find it.
On the positive side, someone who embodies the Four of Cups may be highly intuitive and introspective. They may have a deep understanding of their emotions and the emotions of others. They may be highly creative, sensitive, and spiritually inclined.
Four of Cups Love
When it comes to love, the Four of Cups can mean indifference. Often, the person depicted on the card has their arms crossed, looking away from the cup being offered to them. In tarot, cups symbolize feelings. Cups are associated with relationships. The person in question (yourself or the person involved) are being self-absorbed or aren’t able to see the situation for what it really means. We aren’t seeing the love that others have for us. Or we don’t share someone’s feelings.
Sometimes, we are not ready for a relationship at this time. Or we aren’t ready for this relationship in particular. We might not see the opportunities available to us. In short, you aren’t that into this person. Or they aren’t into you.
Four of Cups as Feelings
Four of Cups as feelings means indifference, apathy, and disengagement with the people around us. Cups in general are about our feelings and the relationships we have. In this particular reading, the Four of Cups is a distinct lack of feeling or a disconnection to those feelings. There is something big missing here.
This card can also mean unrequited love. We might have offered our cup of love to someone and they have rejected not only the offer, but us as well. This can be really painful.
Four of Cups Reversed as Feelings
This is a shift away from feelings of apathy, discontentment, and disengagement towards more openness, optimism, and a willingness to engage with new opportunities.
In the context of a love reading, the reversed Four of Cups may suggest that the person is starting to let go of any past disappointments or emotional baggage that may have been holding them back from fully engaging in a new relationship. They may be feeling more optimistic and hopeful about the future, and are willing to take a chance on love.
Alternatively, the reversed Four of Cups may suggest that the person is becoming more aware of the opportunities that are available to them in their current relationship. They may be starting to appreciate what they have, rather than constantly searching for something more. They may be feeling more satisfied and content in their love life, and may be more willing to invest in their relationship and work towards building a deeper connection with their partner.
Four of Cups Reversed
The Four of Cups Reversed is about coming back into alignment. Now we know what we want and we know which option to use. We aren’t overlooking any of the opportunities available to us. We may fear missing out on something.
You might be feeling as if you are seeing this more clearly right now. Maybe you made a hasty decision or reached the wrong conclusion initially and now you are back on track.
Four of Cups Reversed Love
We are finally realizing what is right in front of us. We might not have been interested in this relationship, but now they don’t want to miss out on the opportunity.
The person we have been dealing with may have rejected us in the past, or they have been apathetic about the relationship. And now they are taking action towards us. They might have realized that they made a huge mistake here.
Four of Cups Advice
Make sure you aren’t missing out on something that has been offered to you. This is a card about checking in with yourself and coming back into alignment with your goals. This opportunity or offer coming your way might be unexpected. It might not be something that you think you want. Or need. However, appearances can be deceiving. Make sure you aren’t missing out on something by rejecting it out of hand.
Four of Cups Timing
Timing in tarot can be tricky. In general, tarot is better at reading the energies than concrete things like times. As for timing, this could be 4 years, 4 months, 4 days, the 4th month of year….etc. There will be some iteration of four involved. Keep in mind that this card is about being out of alignment. And this card might mean the situation is feeling “off”. If you want to move up the timeline, go within and figure out what you want.
