New Moon Rituals for Beginners
I’ve been faithfully doing my monthly new moon ritual for manifestation for years now and I’ve seen amazing results in my life. There’s a reason why I call my business, The New Moon Tarot. Here’s a hot tip from me to you, if you are starting a new business or a new job or a new romance, or a new hobby, the perfect time to do this is the new moon. It will boost your efforts naturally. I chose the new moon in Aries, because it’s fiery energy helps you start a new passion project.
So, yes, I have a bit of a crush on the new moon. And coming from a witch, that really says something. Many witches are all about the full moon, and while I love the immense energy of those crazy nights, I adore setting new moon intentions even more.
How Does a New Moon Make You Feel?
I feel the new moon gives me energy and some focus for the month. It grounds my energy, so I can work towards my goals in a more orderly manner. The New Moon is the start of a new cycle and that makes us feel hopeful, like we can accomplish anything. Think of it as cosmic goal setting. Plus, the process is very pleasurable. I feel centered and grounded when I do this. And, like I mentioned earlier, the results speak for themselves.
New Moon Intentions
Why should you set new moon intentions? As the moon waxes, or gets larger, so does the energy towards the goal you’ve set the intention to achieve.
I like to pick three goals per month to work on. However, you could pick nine or six, or two. The number doesn’t really matter. I just prefer the number three. This number has shown up for me again and again in my life, so I tend to do things in threes. I would caution you to not be too ambitious in any given month. You don’t want to spread your energy too thin.
These goals or intentions can be about anything. Do you want a new job? Maybe you’d like a new relationship? Or maybe you’d like to add in some good habits like exercising everyday or eating healthy food. Whatever these goals are, they should be centered on growth and expansion. Why? Because the moon is growing and we’re using that energy to work our will.
So, what if you want to get rid of a bad habit? Or a relationship? Maybe a job? Or a situation? Then you’d work with the energy of the full moon, but that’s another article.
Something else to consider is the zodiac season we’re in. As I write this, we’re in Virgo season. This sign is associated with health and organization. So, I’m setting some health and organization goals for myself this month. Let’s say we were in Taurus season, a sign that’s known for being very good with money, that would be a great time to work on financial goals. Or maybe you’d like to work on your existing relationships? Then Libra would be the perfect season to set some intentions.
So, let’s talk about setting the intentions. I like to write out my name, location, and birthday, along with the astrological sign of the moon. Since I’m a witch and I’m used to writing petitions for spells, this feels right to me. And basically, my new moon journal is a great big petition. However, you should follow your own intuition and make this process yours.
I then formally request that my goddesses, guides, and ancestors help me manifest these intentions in accordance with the highest good for everyone involved. That last bit is a little supernatural insurance. We never want to manifest something that would harm another person. I want what is best for everyone.
So, do you have to work with goddesses or guides? No, you could work with the energy of the universe. Or your own patron or matron deity. Or your angels. Maybe your ancestors. This is totally up to you and your own spiritual framework. Again, adapt this process to suit your own needs.
I write my goals “as if” I am already succeeding. For example, I take movement breaks throughout the day and I go for a walk every night after I finish dinner. When I’m done writing out my goals, I sign the page like I’ve just completed a contract with the universe…because in a way….I have.
New Moon Crystals
I love to work with crystals. I use crystals with a lot of lunar energy such as selenite, black moonstone, and labradorite. If you are curious, I get most of my crystals from Sage Goddess and I Love Lotus (an Etsy store). Any extra layer of correspondence (like color magic, crystals, incense, essential oils, etc.) you can use to boost your magic will be helpful. No, you don’t need to use crystals…but why wouldn’t you want to use them? They are soooo beautiful.
Back to layers of correspondence. For example, if I want more abundance, I’d use a gold pen or maybe a green one (or whatever color the currency is in your neck of the woods). Or if I want love, I would use red or pink.
However, you don’t have to use lunar crystals. You could also use crystals that correspond with the intentions you are setting. For example, if you want to call in a love interest, you could use rose quartz or fire agate. If you want more abundance, use citrine or green aventurine. Looking for success? Try sunstone or tiger’s eye.
The more layers of correspondence you add into this process, the more power you will raise. Another easy way to add in another layer of power is the day of the week. Yes, there are magical days of the week.
I also use tarot cards for the new moon. Tarot has been used for decades and every single day, around the world, people use these cards, each of them placing energy and intention into the process. Inherently, they have a lot of symbolism and power. Let me give you some examples of cards you could use. If I’m working on a health goal, I would place the Ace of Pentacles around me, since it is associated with small actions that pay off larger rewards. If you wanted to attract love, you should use The Lovers or the Two of Cups. What if you want more abundance? My favorite prosperity card is the Nine of Pentacles, hands down. This card has a permanent place on my abundance altar.
I put the crystals and tarot cards around me while I’m writing out my intentions and then I place them on my new moon journal, which I leave on my altar the entire day. Every time I walk by, I touch the crystals and the book and I think about the intentions that I have just set, adding a little boost of power every time I do this.
Can you Charge Crystals in New Moon?
The full moon is the best time for charging your crystals. During the new moon there is no moonlight for your crystals to bathe in. But you can still use crystals for your manifestations during the new moon.
My New Moon Ritual for Manifestation
So, I like to take my ritual bath the night before because I wake up very early in the morning for new moons. I use pink himalayan sea salt, epsom salt, and essential oils that are cleansing like lemon or rosemary to clear my energy. You don’t have to bathe beforehand, but it helps to raise your vibration and cleanse any negative energy you have.
So, I get up in the hour before dawn and start setting intentions. I like the peace and quiet in the early morning hours, because I find it easier to ground and center myself. Either I practice mindfulness by tuning into my surroundings, or I sometimes use a guided meditation. And then I grab a cup of coffee, my new moon journal, light a candle, diffuse some essential oils that boost my manifestation (rose for love, basil for abundance, etc.), and I also like to cleanse my space with some palo santo.
Several people have asked me if they have to write out their intentions and I really think it’s beneficial. For one thing, you are adding extra intention by writing out what you want. And another, you will want to have a record of what you are manifesting. Then you can go back through it every single month and check what has manifested.
By the way, I found the perfect moon journal when I was out shopping. It was the only one left on the shelf, like it was meant for me. Here’s the link if you want to check it out.
After I have all my materials, I write out what I would like manifest this month. Now, some of these goals are long term, but many of mine have manifested in the same month. You would be surprised what you can accomplish before the full moon.
As I’m writing, I visualize myself achieving these things. What would it feel like to have a new love? What would my body look like if I exercised every single day? And what would my ideal new job look like? Really get into this process.
Afterwards, I close my eyes and concentrate on what I have asked for. Then I place the journal and the crystals on my altar, so I can further charge them with intention throughout the day.
New Moon Ritual Tarot Spread
I don’t have a specific spread, per se. However, I like to pull some cards after I complete my new moon ritual. Sometimes I will ask if there are any obstacles in my path to achieving these goals. I’ve also asked for advice on how to achieve these goals faster.
Do you have your own new moon ritual for manifestation? Tell me about it in the comments. And if you don’t have one yet, what are you planning to do?
Wow! This sounds so beautiful and peaceful. I’m wondering if that picture is of you or if it’s a print? If it is do you know where I could get a copy? I know it’s a long shot. Thank tou
Thank you so much! I really love my new moon rituals. They have made a big difference in my life. And that’s a stock photo from pexels. You can get it in any size. 🙂
