In my experience as a tarot reader, the cards can be helpful. They can give you clarity, peace of mind, and some sage advice. However, there are certain circumstances when it is not appropriate to read tarot cards.
When you are feeling emotionally unstable or vulnerable
If you are feeling emotionally distressed or in a heightened state of emotional turmoil, it may not be the best time to read tarot cards. Intense emotions can cloud your judgment, making it difficult to interpret the cards objectively and accurately. For example, I wouldn’t read tarot cards right after I’d had a break-up with someone, especially if I suspected cheating or lying. Wait a few days, for a more accurate reading.
When you are ill
I don’t know about you, but when I’m sick, I’m not at my best. My energy is low and I feel awful. In this state, it’s difficult to connect with your intuition and your tarot deck. So, this is probably not the best time to do a tarot reading. Especially, if you are a newbie tarot reader.
When you are looking for a specific result
Sometimes clients will ask leading questions when they ask for a tarot reading. It’s clear they are only interested in one result. This is why I advocate for asking big, broad questions to pull in more information. You want an answer, right? Not just shuffling through the cards until you get the ones you want.
When you are in a rush or distracted
Tarot readings require time, focus, and attention. If you aren’t in the right frame of mind, you won’t be able to fully engage with the cards or interpret them accurately. The best tarot readings I’ve done for myself are when I’m calm and focused. Before a tarot reading, take a bath, meditate, listen to some ASMR on YouTube, light some candles and/or incense. Do something to center yourself.
How About a Do Over?
If you have already gotten an undesirable outcome for a tarot reading, don’t try again until you get the result you were looking for. Sometimes we really want to hear something and the cards disappoint us. Instead of trying again, drill down on the result and ask for more clarification…instead of trying to get a different answer.
When you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol
It is not recommended to read tarot cards when under the influence of drugs or alcohol, as this can impair your judgment and affect your ability to read the cards accurately.
When you are seeking medical or legal advice
Tarot readings are not a substitute for medical or legal advice. They can point you in the right direction and expand your mind to new possibilities. But, If you have specific medical or legal concerns, you should consult with a qualified professional.
In summary, tarot readings can be a valuable tool for self-reflection and gaining insights, but it’s important to approach them with an open mind and in the appropriate circumstances.
